40 is a Powerful Number, by Coleen

Did you know that 40 is a life-changing number? The success of this year’s 40 in 40 Campaign is truly inspiring, and it is thanks to your generosity. Because of you, forty more children are going to school through a Remember Niger sponsorship. We are very grateful!

My husband’s favorite band is U2. In 1983, they released a song called “40.” The Edge, the group’s guitarist, explains, “Bono said, ‘Let’s do a psalm.’ Opened up the Bible and found Psalm 40. ‘This is it. Let’s do it.’”1 The lines from Psalm 40 say,

I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock, making my footsteps firm.
He put a new song in my mouth.

The 40 in 40 Campaign is a significant element of our sponsorship program. Thanks to our sponsors, we are helping take children out of the miry clay of poverty, hunger and illiteracy. Together, we will set their feet upon a rock – the rock of an excellent education. The new song in their mouths can be a song of joy, confidence and hope for a bright future. Thanks to you, this dream has become a reality!
