Training began on Monday for teachers from the Zinder, Aguie and Tsibiri schools. Teachers are clearly interested in learning, and each time this training is held we, in turn, learn about what works well for this particular program. It is exciting for everyone involved. The school directors are also making plans for how to expand the use of computers in their schools.
The Tsibiri computer lab was readied for training just in time – we realized last week that some additional improvements were important for the lab, so an electrician was hired to improve the lighting and add ceiling fans. Wow! For the volunteers who have been here before, you would be impressed at the impact these simple things have made. The teachers are learning more about computers, Word, Excel, typing programs and so on. But our favorite so far has been a man who was recently hired to teach. He is older – he was a director of a public school for 28 years – but he has never touched a computer in his life. He was so happy just to be able to type his name! By the second day he was doing much more than that.
