Easter greetings from Niger! Kara, Kylee and I (Anne) arrived safely in Niamey yesterday afternoon and had a great day getting settled in the city, despite the jet lag. This morning we had the pleasure of visiting with our partners here in Niamey and celebrating Easter with one of the EERN congregations. It was wonderful to share this joyful day with our Nigerien brothers and sisters.
I want to share something that struck me from the sermon this morning. The pastor was speaking about how this Easter is different from past years in Niger, because of the recent unrest. He said, “Many people have asked me, ‘How can you celebrate Easter, when so recently your churches were burned? What message will you give to your congregation?’ And I said, I will give a message of hope because Christ is risen! And Christ is our protector.”
He is risen indeed!
