I would like to send a big thank you to Jennifer Hillman for all of the soccer uniforms she has supplied throughout the past few years. Yesterday evening the girls at the Tsibiri boarding school put the uniforms on and played a competitive game of soccer. Everyone at the school had a great time! I have seen so much progress in the level of play and skill since I lived here 9 years ago. During that time, girls’ soccer was relatively new in Niger. I organized a soccer tournament at the school and insisted that the girls have an opportunity to play as well. A lot has changed since then. I no longer hear giggling and laughter because it’s funny to watch girls play a traditionally boys’ sport in Niger. Instead, there is a lot of cheering and calls of appreciation.
