I’m sorry to have to report that Anissa, one of the young girls who attended the Niamey Primary School last year passed away several months ago due to Meningitis. Meningitis is a common disease in Niger that hits during the hot, dry season when food is in short supply and children are often malnourished. Last May, the government shut down schools for several weeks because of an outbreak. We are working with school officials to make certain that the students at the schools we support are immunized for this disease as well as other diseases. A portion of donated funds is used for purchasing medical kits for each of the schools as well as mosquito netting for the dormitory beds at Tsibiri.
