One of my tasks on this trip was to disperse some donated items from supporters in the United States. While we have been doing that throughout the trip as we visited the different schools, yesterday was the big day for the boarding school! A donor from Sunrise Ministries in Hudsonville, MI provided enough sunglasses so that every student at each school could have a pair.
The afternoon prior, we organized the sunglasses into sizes. Then, on Wednesday, we went to each class and handed them out. It was a lot of fun to see the smiles on the children’s faces and hear their laughter as they received their gift and tried the sunglasses on. And, after school, as we were driving back to the guest house, I saw many children in the village who were wearing sunglasses. They were all still smiling! The Tsibiri director, teachers and students send their “thanks” to the donors!
We also visited a maternity clinic where babies are born and treated. A women’s group from 1st Reformed Church in Orange City, Iowa donated baby hats and scarves, which they made themselves. We handed out the hats and scarves to the moms and babies who were there and then left the rest with the nurses at the maternity, to be given to more babies later. Needless to say, the moms (and babies) were pleased and thankful.
